Cybergamer has announced the groupings and schedule for the tournament (the dates listed are wrong, matches are on the next day – the Sunday) and anticipation for the games to commence is huge, not at all helped by a first round bye, with a strong start imperative. Prizes have been announced and reward the top placed getters from each group so there is an added incentive. Alright boys, here’s the fixture.

The wait is finally over.

After an extended delay due to EA muppetness, CG has announced the groupings for its premier tournament. BC2 has attracted clans from all eras of Battlefield – mixed with a few COD rands – providing a diverse array of competition arguably uniting the best in one format. Hopefully these elder statesmen throw away their Gustav’s (aka Big Reds) for the sake of the tournament and we will witness some A+ action.

Closer to home we’ve amazingly drawn clans we’ve scrimmed throughout the past month; AEF.bw, Fray, Deadly Combination, Vital eSports and Carnage. Vital branch off the infamous hax0r clan once known as Instant Death, eyes will be upon them no doubt but according to the community the threat lies in Fray. We shall see how it pans out, personally I cannot wait for the game against the BlackWatch to resume 2142 hostilities … the talk is Fray should top the group, if that indeed is the case they may have improved out of sight from our last meeting.

Kick off is Wednesday the 7th of April on Laguna Presa, followed by White Pass that Sunday versus TBA.

GL HF, we’ll be batting for 2142.

Wow.

Due to popular demand, a brief report of the game against 6P…

Starting on attack, we went in with a mindset of being methodical, ensuring we got all the sites without a real emphasis on attack. Job done, near enough to 20 minutes with our forces held up only at Phase 3 despite their chopper having a minimal effect.

On defense we got blitzed in 8 minutes. What happened? Well honestly we still do not know however, 6P breezed through our first two phases as expected but we amassed their vehicles for phase 3 defense. Phase 1, 6P executed ye olde Jihad flurry at B site which initially failed only to be reinforced by the second respawn of the UAV. A site went down to a jihaded APC who successfully circumnavigated a minefield – kudos. Phase 2 must have got ninja’d, in possession of their armour and with control of the hill – A site went down with B site going a second later (literally).

Never mind we thought, our Phase 3 defense had yet to be penetrated so we were pretty confident given that our chopper was up, we had both pieces of armour, there was no environment to work with, all paths into A and B site zoned, infantry on sites as insurance and then … lolwut? Both sites go down simultaneously with no apparent UAV jihad (chopper had it down), no visuals on enemy troops and generally no idea how / what / how / when / how it happened.

Phase 4 went down extremely quickly with the chopper circling, we’re not sure how they got through again but suspect the out of bounds hill featured.

We wish 6P and tsw the best of luck in the final, no doubt all eyes will be on 6P to witness the brilliance. We thank CG and Talnoy for putting on the beta tournament and set our sights on a (hopefully, large format) GameArena tournament.

This Sunday 21st, live from Port Valdez and potentially from the GameStah studios, the dominant team of 1942 face the conquerors of 2142. Ag progressed last night with a comfortable yet hard fought win over Team7 whom packed quite a punch with solid facets of play however the first round Ag attack proved to much for 7 whose time expired at the beginning of the third phase.

Ahead we look toward 6P, and then most likely [tsw] of NZ who will be out to thwart our attempts and indeed the 12 copies of BF:BC2 in the inaugural BFBC tournament. In other brackets, big names just keep on falling to lesser likes with the much fancied (o)< crumbling to lesser competition whilst aK and 2142 friends FV have progressed into their preliminary finals. 6P presumably will have Binstar’s expertise and tactical nous in the armour with a solid core of infantrymen recognizable still from the early BF2 GA tournament.

The match is drawing attention from the community and is being billed as an epic, with Smiley and competition CEO Talnoy predicting tight, tight affairs. Nevertheless, we will go back to the drawing board in an attempt to construct something new to aid our efforts – GL HF.

The CyberGamer tournament commenced earlier this week with Ag facing off against Team XFX / Frail with Ag coming away with a victory. This has set up a huge game against one-time foes Team Renegade whom became our bogey team of sorts when Ag dabbled into BF2 for small format tournaments.

Nevertheless, the fixture is this Monday (15/1) and the clan will attempt to blow tR off the map, attacking for this segment in the tournament. The confidence is high amongst the crew with punishing wins against all comers in recent scrims on attack and defense, we hope to add tR’s scalp and progress deeper into the tournament.

Around the grounds … The forums were rife with plentiful amounts of trolling and laughter at the elimination of kpro-esports outfits that apparently dominated their respective games. Within our bracket, no real surprises but teams that should be squaring off in finals will oppose each other this week opening the door for a darkhorse or two to shake up the latter stages of play.

Aside … GameArena have officially announced a small format (rush) money competition for which we may look at one or two experienced recruits to join the team. Inquire within.

*Update; Ag defeated tR by 58 tickets on attack, the victory has set up a quarter final meeting with Team7 on Wednesday @ 930.
